Walking and Hiking
The wider Sliabh Beagh region offers 36 waymarked looped walks, ranging from approximately 4 km to 15 km. Four routes begin in Knockatallon, with maps and local information available from the hotel.
Choose from relaxed countryside walks or take on the climb towards Sliabh Beagh’s highest point, close to the Three County Hollow where Monaghan, Tyrone and Fermanagh meet.
The Knockatallon walking loops were developed through the local social enterprise, helping visitors discover the landscape while supporting tourism within the community.

Sliabh Beagh is known for its blanket bog, tranquil lakes and rich variety of plants and wildlife. Parts of this distinctive upland landscape are protected as both a Natural Heritage Area (NHA) and the Sliabh Beagh Special Protection Area (SPA).
The NHA designation recognises the ecological importance of the blanket bog, heathland, native plants and wider upland habitats. The SPA is particularly important for the conservation of the Hen Harrier, a rare bird of prey that uses the open bog, moorland, forestry and surrounding farmland for nesting and feeding.
With its open views, quiet roads and changing scenery, Sliabh Beagh is a wonderful destination for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, photographers and anyone looking to reconnect with nature.

Our all-weather AstroTurf pitches are available for hire and are suitable for training sessions, group activities and children’s parties. The children’s playground directly across from the hotel is another convenient option for families.
